Facebook friend, poet, writer and film-maker. If anyone can be said to have inspired the animations and slow-moving darker pieces of my work, it’s Janet. This piece exemplifies the grace and depth that first caught my attention and keeps it now.
Janet layers sounds; some music, some environmental creaks and bangs; with filmic imagery in monochromatic tones with occasional muted colours. Between them, they’re the vehicle and the passengers with the poetry that is sometimes hers, sometimes a collaboration. Everything supports everything else; nothing is primary; the whole is profoundly greater than the sum of its parts.
Which is probably why we have this, First Prize in a “collaborative art-making endeavour that pairs filmmakers with poets to create exciting new pieces of work” awarded by Filmetry.
